Friendly fire

Nella guerra, per fortuna metaforica, in corso from renewable sources, fossil fuels and nuclear, is happening in Italy something similar, that is, some people like the printing or Gabanelli Pirani, we would expect to find in our field of battle, they begin to inexplicably shoot against renewables.

I addressed this issue, trying to indicate to influential journalists who were the errors that cause them to overshoot the target energy in this article and this other .

But, with pleasure, I discovered that an environmentalist much stronger than me, the former Environment Minister, Edo Ronchi, responded more or less the same with my arguments and Gabanelli Pirani. For this I propose the following fully the last letter of the Ronchi journalist Republic, which has unexpectedly appreciated the measures that reduce government funding and pose major constraints to wind and solar.

response Edo Ronchi attack Mario Pirani to solar and wind

Mario Pirani, in a recent article, welcomes the review of incentives for renewables, a measure proposed by Tremonti in the examination Parliament.

added that this review is not only sacred, but that the representatives of the renewables lobby, "and no mafia", are unleashing a race for new installations and that against this "raid" would be mobilized "major environmental groups."

In general, the article is directed against "scams that, with excessive incentives are accompanied by a proliferation of wind farms, both against the devastation of the agricultural landscape as a result of the implementation on too many large parcels of land with solar panels ".
In fact, if the mentioned measure was approved in its original text, hit the 30% coupon incentives for wind and solar installations consisting of prohibiting any area classified as agricultural, including very large now is not where nothing grows and of any particular natural and severely limiting even small ones in these areas, there would be a good result to break the development, also taking place in Italy as in most other countries around the world, new renewable sources.

WWF, Greenpeace and Legambiente in Italy representing over 90% of students are "major environmental groups, held May 14 in a room of the Senate, a press conference, where I was present, where they presented of proposed amendments on that particular measure, asking, in defense of the development of renewables needed to counter the most serious environmental crisis of our time, to reduce the incentives to cut 15% and not to prohibit by law the solar plants in the ground all agricultural areas, but only in areas where agricultural production policy are realized by implementing the recently introduced guidelines in respect of environmental assessments and environmental impact required by law and landscape in force, handing over the implementation of the address to the regions.

add that this position is shared by myself, was also welcomed by representatives of associations of producers of renewable present.

Opponents so virulent that even in the name of the environment, a development consisting of clean and renewable energy sources, like solar and wind energy, has the duty to identify the feasible alternatives available and to a lesser impatto.

In Italy, with wind power in 2010 have been produced 8.3 billion kilowatt hours, with the sun 1.6 billion, with a substantial increase over the previous year. To implement the European directive we produce over 20 billion kilowatt-hours from wind and solar by about 11 billion, according to the plan presented last year, then multiply by 2.4 to 6.8 for those wind farms and solar.

I read that the Mafia also invests in restaurants. Then I expect the next article in Pirani that attacks the lobby of the restaurant and ask for the closure of restaurants.

Dopo l’entrata in esercizio della nuova linea tranviaria fiorentina nel febbraio scorso, qui commentata, arrivano good news on the evaluation and use by users who point out in these articles:

I leave the car, I like the tram

Every day 40,000 passengers on the tram Florentine

Tramway boom, all crazy Sirius 7 ½ million passengers

Cases of Bergamo and Florence do not differ in any way other examples enormously popular in Europe and I had foreseen and foretold. Just starts running a new tram line, users increased by a certain percentage of the existing service road through the transfer of shares to private motorized vehicle travel by tram, for the reasons I have explained here.

But, when you complete a network of urban streetcar lines, even better if integrated with the local railways, the mechanism of removal allowance of motorized transport is multiplied exponentially but not proportionately. So what now may appear to Florence an important but limited, is milestone in the context of the completion of the entire system of rail transport that the city, amid many contradictions, is conducting.

As I reported in my previous article , the new Mayor Renzi has unfortunately added further delays to the completion and probably only in March-April this year work will begin on the lines 2 and 3. It is still unknown step in the solution of the old town, which has challenged the Renzi, excluding the transition from the Piazza del Duomo and assuming the absurd as unlikely under crossing of the city.

In this regard, I draw from blog Rail for the valley, site of the Canadian sector of great interest, news of the forthcoming opening of other trams in France, including that of Reims, very interesting for technological solutions and Cosmetics also adopted for the passage of the vehicle near the famous cathedral. Together with the tramways opened in 2010, France confirms its leadership in the industry with as many as 37 modern tram system nell'intero paese.

Rome: the end of the world!

Speaking of disasters and the like, could not miss a meeting about peak oil to which we have participated myself, Ugo Bardi, and Kjell Aleklett, president of ASPO International.

Aleklett made a speech highly detailed and articulated. His conclusions on the peak, you probably know them, but the result is that we are more or less on the peak, although it is possible traccheggiare a little more 'on' production plateau "that began in 2004. Aleklett has a blog where you can find many of his conclusions and his studies. Kjell around here its splendor while speaking at the conference.

As for my presentation, I tried to give more space - how they want the rules of courtesy - to our guests from abroad and I done something more about where they are concentrated on the interaction between peak oil and global warming. A description of my speech Blog "Cassandra .

With 500 people to listen, I think it was a great success. Personally, I had never spoken so many people all at once. Aleklett himself told me that even he had never had an audience so large. Many people seemed to me a lot of interest, we had many questions and could not even leave the room because there were still after the conference was over.

This means that peak oil has become "mainstream"? Hard to say. In a conference like this, you may end up to the peak in the same category of things remote and unlikely but catastrophic, see the Earth like mega-hit by an asteroid or sucked into a black hole. Instead, the peak is neither likely nor remote: it is a sure thing and close in time.

Well, however it is something that too.

Induction Cooktop Mats

You name it, if you want, unconventional.

Massimo Di Nicolazzi

For those who do not realize it, the largest natural gas producer in the world (2009) is not Russia, but are (again become) the United States. He helped the decline in Russian production. But 624 billion cubic meters a year in the U.S. national record. Gross Canada and its production self-sufficiency means more than 90% of domestic consumption. And a mushroom used for regasification of the year for conventions, meetings and school trips. But the American production was in decline?

After the peak and the theory of peak oil production decreases following the trend (decreasing) of a bell curve. Falls short of ugly. In the early seventies the American production was reached by the parties of the 10 million barrels per day. In 2008 it was under 5. More than a bell, seemed to be coming down a precipice. But be careful. In 2009, bouncing roughly 8% (410,000 barrels per day, not peanuts) back above 5 million b / g, and the estimate for 2010 is a further (modest) rebound compared to 2009 (70,000 b / g). Even the curves sometimes curl.

The name of fashion is unconventional. The increase in production is his fault. More than 50% of natural gas produced in the United States is unconventional. An increasingly important share of domestic production of oil as well. Unconventional why? Strange oil? New discoveries? All new technologies?
begin with the first. The gas is natural gas and oil is oil, as they are the conventional ones (unlike the product from Syncrude tar sands or shale in the strict sense). If we have baptized an adjective is more appropriate because children are really unexpected. So trapped in the bowels of the rock to despair that there might be returned.

The gas will hear normally divided into three categories. Tight Gas, Shale Gas and Coal Bed Methane. The last of his and 'methane trapped in coal. As if to say that once the gas was only a threat to the security of the extraction, and instead now sometimes let you down and you pull up the coal only methane. The distinction is blurring between the other two in common parlance, and in turn the unconventional oil has an increasingly more 'relevant to oil shale.

What unites them all is che si tratta di idrocarburi racchiusi (o mai usciti da) contenitori (rocce) impermeabili o comunque a bassissima permeabilità.

Short of cracking open the prison, allowing the hydrocarbon "liberated" to come to the surface.

The first examples of the practice of hydraulic fracturing is 1949. The ability to go horizontal has been dramatically improved over time, but "deviate" was a well controlled process technically already in the seventies of the last century. The shale, for one, have always known that there is, however, we have begun to produce solid now. L 'invention', by itself, and as (almost) always, does not explain. That something is technically possible does not mean that it is economically feasible.

Oggi arriviamo a oltre 7000.

Linearmente, se continua cosi’dovrebbe be able to squeeze me all the unconventional in the world, and so then all the sands, and shale, and so on (perhaps even including hydrates and techniques that do not make us fear the roasting of the planet). With all the fossil fuels that are still around, just rely on Madama and spikes or scarcity 'concern themselves with those of the next century.

's not 'just so'. Even leaving aside, for those who can ', from any problem of emissions. From oil all'unconventional Drake, Madame has made us increasingly available hydrocarbons' "difficult". More 'deep, or more' reluctant to come to the surface by a simple gradient pressure, or trapped in tight rock, or whatever. The difficulty 'opens up two problems. One and 'that the technological evolution to maintain its record of time to market should continue to allow (in real terms) to buy what' and that 'more' difficult 'at prices comparable to those dell'antecedente more' easy ". Without oil there 'mobility', but if the cost of producing sketches of a barrel at 1000 Euro, or find another that makes you move to mobility or 'I give up. Madama us move so far to have it done, and very well. But times of "aging" of the new combine to tell you tomorrow, for a change, there is no 'certainty. The second and

'to more' difficult 'can mean greater potential for environmental and social impact. Especially when something goes wrong. The eruption of Macondo and 'too recent to have to exemplify. Tear the hydrocarbon impermeable rock so much water means that dirty at the start of additives, which will drag out that he has met fracturing rocks, and eventually you find yourself having to dispose of. And above all, precisely, the water "fracture" the rock, and maybe you want to be sure that as' doing no fun to defile some ground water, or more. The difficulty ', in the end, you have to put the deal in terms of an explicit theme of Sustainability' of risk (or, if you prefer, the 'impact').

In this sense (and speaking of sustainability 'issue of gross emissions) is not' hard to predict which limits the production of unconventional fossil fuels in general and in particular will in future only or even primarily limits of mineral resources or capacity of 'technical / economical to extract. The stakes for the production will place them 'much more' heavy regulation (and not 'say it is, or is always good), and the cost of production of technological production border should progressively lead below (and here I say hopefully) increasing component safety.

will not be short ', or will not be' Madama technology only to be masters of our destinies. Science and technology and help explain, but it is not 'their job to decide. The decide (and in particular the decision of the sustainability ') should be the policy, but that, as final, and' perhaps too unconventional.

sensational, gasoline prices depend on oil prices

Combined with higher oil prices, gasoline prices have started to grow, and with them, re-appeared the inevitable protests of consumers and motorists against an alleged speculation of oil companies.
I have already explained in a previous article that these protests are largely groundless. In fact, as can be seen in the first graph, content analysis available on the site of "Banks, Savings Investment and Trading" on this address, there is an almost perfect correlation between the barrel price trend (in euro) and fuel prices. This close connection has come loose only during the first tumultuous growth of oil prices in 2008, when the rising price of a barrel did not correspond a proportional increase in pump price of fuel. The phenomenon can be read better in the second graph extracted from the same source of the first to address this , which shows the relationship between gasoline prices and WTI in euro. There is a phase of lower values \u200b\u200bin 2008 due to higher oil prices on growth than those of petrol and a phase of "compensation" later which notes the opposite phenomenon. Then, by the end of 2009, there is an almost complete correspondence between increases in the prices of two products. This dismantling the conspiracy theory that denies the correlation between the prices with the argument that the current dynamics of gasoline prices is different from that of the first period of growth in crude oil prices.
The strange thing is that the same mechanism seems to have occurred for the prices of other products dependent on oil prices, as in the case of foodstuffs. In the last graph, extracted from the blog of Ma rco Pagani you can see a similar trend, with prices of foodstuffs in the first phase do not follow proportionately with the surge in oil prices, and then align almost perfectly with the dynamic oil prices.
It would appear that in the first instance there is a kind of inelasticity of commodity prices in relation to sudden surges in oil prices, a kind of "surprise" that is then slowly reabsorbed in a realignment of the evolutionary dynamics of prices.

What Do The Jelly Braced

HAPPY NEW YEAR Best wishes and thanks

Welcome back to everyone. The holidays are over, but in the end is also a good thing. There are so many things to do and we had really wanted to start big. We are already planning a couple of delicious events, we resumed work at the Fund Hosts, Rete180 was reactivated at large, the studios began to produce.

So here we are! More active than ever and with a lot of good intentions for this new year.

Let's hope so ...

Hello hello
